Sihlbogen in Zurich-Leimbach

Residential and commercial buildings

The project «Sihlbogen» in Zurich-Leimbach, designed by Dachtler Partner AG, comprises a residential and commercial development. With this project, the Zurlinden building cooperative is pursuing the goals of the 2000-watt society, which go far beyond the familiar MINERGIE standards. This includes taking into account the ecology of the building materials used and minimizing «grey energy».

The former importance of the Sihl for industry can still be seen today in the sequence of sites. The project was blocked for years by objections. The design is strongly influenced by the requirements of the «2000-watt society», which envisages large, compact volumes. One of the biggest challenges was coping with the noise pollution caused by the nearby Sihl Valley Railway and the busy Leimbachstrasse. This required special structural measures for sound insulation.
