Cantonal School Büelrain, Winterthur

Schools

The new replacement building for the Büelrain cantonal school created a spacious urban meeting space between the existing and new buildings and complements the existing school building from 1992. It comprises 40 classrooms, science rooms, a media library and a gymnasium. The skylit stair hall forms a spacious and open meeting space at the heart of the building.

The complex urban connection between the ZHAW campus and the surrounding green spaces, the Eulach and the Heiligberg posed a particular challenge. The new replacement building is intended to be an energy-efficient and light-flooded building with space for meetings and art projects, and is also designed to allow for future adaptations and conversions.
